Outting with new lens

I took delivery on my new lens today, this being the Canon 70 - 200mm f2.8 L lens, so i felt like I should go out and use it, these are a selection of my favourite photographs that I captured on my outing. My personal favourite is the dog owner and her dog running after her, due to the way both are in focus and the sea just looks like a flat horizon endlessly going on.

Portrait exercise

For this exercise i had to choose three different portrait's a successful these being:

1) A successful portrait taking by myself
2) A successful Portrait by another photographer
3) A portrait i deem Unsuccessful

The first image shown here is the portrait that I've taking, this is of a member of the band idiot pilot, The reason i feel this is a good portrait is due to the fact it captures the personality and passion of the person captured within the image, and the items he uses to succeed these passions.

This second photograph is taking by Gered Mankowitz of the musician Jimi Hendrix, i choose this image for the same reason's i picked the first photograph as i feel that you really get a sense of the personality of the subject as the you get a sense of the attitude and showmanship that has always been written about Hendrix but also the shy side that has been said about his off stage persona.

The third and final image is the portrait that I feel is unsuccessful, I have chosen an image of Judi Dench taking by Andrew Zuckerman, the reasoning i feel this is unsuccessful is due to the fact i find the image is that there is nothing remarkable striking about the image, it is well lit and sharp but i feel this makes the image too clinical and you use the uniqueness of the the person.
